Shannon Hagland

Hi guys! I'm Shannon and I'm currently in my second year studying therapeutic psychology at Roehampton University in London, with hopes in becoming a child psychotherapist. Throughout my life I've always inspired to do more in life, to help people, to give back. In college I applied to become the class' student rep, at university I'm currently not only a flat rep but also the deputy president of one of the university's colleges. I always try to apply for positions like these so I can learn from others, hear people's ideas, provide help. Coming across this volunteering project at a volunteering fair at my university opened my eyes on how I can further my aspirations on giving people what they need and deserve. From my previous work with children, I've seen how much of an impact the concept and implications of play has on one's development. It is through play that children engage and interact in the world around them, allowing them to explore, take risks, use their imagination, build upon social skills and their physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. Furthermore, I'm beyond excited to be able to help achieve this by building a playground in Uganda and making a positive contribution to a child's development.
