Lizzy Weber Hi Everyone,

I am aiming to raise £2000 by May 2019, to support both East African Playgrounds and the endangered mountain gorilla. Come June, I will go to Uganda, working with a team of Ugandan professionals (Whom East African Playgrounds helps to train), to build a playground for children in a rural community, giving them access to vital play equipment that we take for granted. I will also be trekking to support conservation efforts for the mountain gorilla, one of our closest animal relatives, and sadly at risk of extinction.

East African Playgrounds is a wonderful charity that provides play equipment to children in isolated rural communities. Play is incredibly important to a child's development and is positively correlated with greater success in adult life. Many of these communities lack basic play equipment. Although children have amazing imaginations, providing appropriate stimulus massively enhances their play experience, allowing them to develop social bonds and learn about their world through experience, rather than from a textbook.

Of the £2000 I raise, £300 will go to the Uganda Wildlife Authority to help with the conservation of endangered gorillas, £600 will go towards the Home of Edirisa, a non-profit company, supporting the communities we will trek through. The remaining £1100 will go directly to East African Playgrounds to fund their incredible work.

You don't have to give the world, but even giving a little could really help these children. Just £21.83 educates a teacher on the importance of including play in education and provides them with a peer network to share their learning in. Even just £5.11 can give one child their childhood back through access to a safe, fun and child focused playground. And remember, as Tesco says, "Every little helps!" ;)

I would really appreciate anything you can give, even if it's just a couple of quid. These children deserve the same childhood we all got.

Thanks,

Lizzy x
