Kate Gale This August I will be travelling to Uganda to spend almost a month working side by side with an amazing organisation, East African Playgrounds, to take part in volunteer work that aims to help a community by providing the local school with a secure playground for the children.

In Uganda, children don't get to experience certain pleasures such as playing because there is simply no government funding to provide it. I think it is easy to often take for granted how lucky we are to have been able to experience playing in an safe and securely built playground, enabling us to explore our creative sides and just simply have fun. This experience should be available to every child, no matter where they live in the world, and that's why our work is so important as it will give many children their first experience of play.

Also, we often don't realise how important play is in a child's development, it helps in so many ways whether that be socially, mentally or physically. It enables children to become aware of new capabilities, helping them to reach their full potential, something that no child should be denied. Thankfully we will work with skilled Ugandan builders and welders in order to build a safe and secure playground for children to experience this.

As well as this, our time out there will also include helping to deliver a creative play programme, which involves working with children of different ages. This gives the children the chance to take part in some fun games that use locally sourced materials, that encourage them to use their creativity as well as their problem-solving skills.

In addition to all of this, I'm so unbelievably grateful, as animal lover, to be able to say that at the end of the trip I will be taking part in a gorilla trek that will allow me to see the last remaining silverback gorillas, and in doing so I will be helping to contribute to the conservation of this critically endangered species.

Thank you for taking your time to read my page and I hope you see the importance in a project like this, any donations will be so gratefully received and will make such a huge difference to children's lives in Uganda.

East African playgrounds has helped thousands of children so far, so please help me in helping them to reach many more.

Thank you,

Kate :) Kate Gale
