I've signed up to take on the Gorilla Trek with the charity East African Playgrounds to raise £2,000 to give some of the world's most disadvantaged children a childhood through play and creativity. It is proven that play has many benefits for a child's development increasing their physical, social and cognitive skills - all beneficial for their well-being and future. I will be working with three organisations: East African Playgrounds, the Ugandan social enterprise Edirisa, and the Uganda Wildlife Authority.

These organisations all play key parts in the development of East Africa. For example, East African Playgrounds help the local communities by building local playgrounds to provide a safe and fun environment for their children to experience a childhood;
Edirisa provides enterprise and educational support to the communities around the Gorillas;
lastly, the Uganda Wildlife Authority help to protect these endangered Gorillas and have helped rapidly increase their numbers within the last 10 years (Uganda is currently home to 600 of the 800 remaining Mountain Gorillas on the planet).

Your donation has a huge impact on the conservation of Gorillas and the children of Uganda. Here is what your donation will buy in the children's playground;
£10 - builds a toy Giraffe for the children of a community to play with
£15 - builds a motorbike out of tires, allowing kids to engage their creativity in roleplay scenarios
£20 - funds safety equipment for a disadvantaged young adult, helping them to be safe as they start their meaningful employment with East African Playgrounds
£50 - builds a table with space for board games such as checkers or snakes and ladders!
£100 - could fund a one-month educational play programme

To help raise the money, I will be spending three weeks in Uganda trekking across every terrain possible from mountains to lakes and jungles. After this, I will be working directly with East African Playgrounds to help build a playground and deliver a safer environment for children to play in.

Of the £2,000 you help me raise, £300 will go to the Ugandan Wildlife Authority to help the conservation efforts of the Gorillas I will be visiting. £600 will go towards project costs such as food, accommodation and travel, most of which will go to the non-profit trek company, the Edirisa, who support the communities we will be trekking through. The remaining £1,100 will go directly to East African Playgrounds to fund their incredible work.

Please donate anything you can as it will make a huge difference to thousands of people.
