Helena Newcombe "Play builds the kind of free-and-easy, try-it-out, do-it-yourself character that our future needs" - James L. Hymes, Jr.

Where would we be without the magic of play? A playground is a classroom in disguise and I want to help bring that form of learning to a local, disadvantaged school...Join me and help me build a playground in Uganda and impact thousands of childhoods!

After a successful cycle from London to Paris last year, I have challenged myself with trekking 5 days in Western Uganda and then building a playground from scratch for a local school. This will be my first time in rural Africa and I am also the challenge leader on this trip - nerve-racking but very exciting!

I will be joining East African Playgrounds next summer, to live and volunteer within a local Ugandan community, helping to build a playgrounds for disadvantaged children. I grew up loving school, and a large part of this was my accessibility to outdoor equipment and the freedom to play with my friends. The aim of this trip is to create this gift for children to learn and grow whilst taking in the whole world with their friends. The charity believes building these playgrounds can develop their physical, emotional, social and cognitive skills as it becomes a classroom in disguise. Helena Newcombe
