Phillippa Cook I've signed up to the Gorilla Trek with the charity, East African Playgrounds to raise £2,000 to help bring the gift of play to the children of Uganda.

On the 23rd June 2019 I will be travelling to Uganda to build a playground for a rural school. After trekking for a few days and seeing the last remaining Silverback Mountain Gorillas, I will be volunteering and living within a local community.

Play is fundamental to learning and the health and wellbeing of a child. Unfortunately most rural Ugandan schools lack facilities and funds to provide playgrounds for their pupils. Help me to change this.

So far East African Playgrounds has built over 230 playgrounds, and benefited 345,000 children. Please help me build another playground and let more Ugandan children experience the gift of play by donating to this fundraising page. All donations are hugely appreciated!

As well as building a playground, my volunteer team will be running educational play workshops with the children of my community during my time in the village.

A breakdown of where the costs go can be found at

All donations make a huge difference:
£5.11 can give one child access to a playground
£25 can fund toy animals for children to play on
£73.80 can equip a former street child with resources needed to learn the basic of welding
£100 can fund a one month educational play programme
£197.61 can train a former street child for a month- helping them to become a qualified builder or welder through EAP Apprenticeship Scheme
£250 can fund a climbing frame for a playground

I am also fundraising for my flights, so any money that I raise above the £2,000 can be reimbursed by East African Playgrounds to me (upon request) up to the cost of my flight.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and for any donations!! Phillippa Cook
