Alice Hayden Welcome to my fundraising page!

In June I will be taking myself out of my comfort zone and spending a month in Uganda to help build a playground for a local community. This will involve trekking across difficult vast landscapes of mountains, jungles, dirt tracks and lakes, meeting the local communities. On our trek, we hope to see some of the last remaining silverback gorillas in the wild, £300 of the money I fundraise will be going to the Ugandan Conservation Trust to protect the gorillas and their natural habitat. I will be joining a team of paid Ugandan professionals and other volunteers to help build a playground. We will be camping out with all the bugs, spiders and snakes that Uganda has to offer and showering in buckets of cold water the entire time! Anyone that knows me, will know that will be the biggest challenge of all!

Almost half the population of Uganda is under 15 years old, making for packed schools and busy communities of children. By building a playground, we aim to give the children a better childhood. Playing has an incredible benefit on a child's development and helps to build physical, social, emotional and cognitive skills. It also gives them the opportunity to make sense of the world and exercise freedom of thought. As an aspiring creative writer, I can't imagine growing up without the chance to grow your imagination through play and I want to give the children of Uganda the same opportunity to enrich their childhoods.

To fundraise I am taking part in many cake sales, bucket collections and in May I will be running a Half Marathon!

Please help me reach my fundraising target by giving whatever you can - any donation will make a difference! Thank you, Alice :) Alice Hayden
