Hi I'm Alice and in June 2019, I will be travelling to Uganda with East African Playgrounds to build a playground. Play is key for a child’s learning, wellbeing and healthy brain development and is in fact so crucial that it is included in the UN Convention on Rights of the Child. However, in Uganda many children spend time working or helping with chores at home and play is ignored. By building playgrounds children can express their creativity, communicate and improve their physical, social, emotional and cognitive abilities, promoting long term sustainable benefits for the community. East African Playgrounds helps to empower disadvantaged and deprived children.

What difference does your donation make?

£5.11 gives a child their childhood back through access to safe, fun and child-focussed playground.
£21.83 educates a teacher on the importance of play in education and creates a peer network for them to share their learning in.
£197.61 trains a former street child for a month, helping them to become a qualified builder or welder through our apprenticeship scheme.

This summer I will spend three weeks in Uganda, taking on mountains lakes and jungles, before volunteering on a playground built by myself. Of the £2,000 I raise, £300 will go to the Uganda Wildlife Authority to help conservation efforts of the gorilla I will be visiting. £600 will go on project costs of food, accommodation and travel, most of which will go to the non-project trek company, the Home of Edirisa, who support communities we trek through. The remaining £1,100 will go directly to East African Playgrounds to fund their incredible work. I am also fundraising for my flights, so any money I raise above the £2,000 can be reimbursed by East African Playground to me (upon request, up to the cost of my flight.

Please donate what you can to give children in Uganda their childhoods.

Thank you for all your donations!
