Nia Phillips I've signed up to the Uganda Volunteer Project with the charity, East African Playgrounds as I am passionate about child development and developmental Psychology. I will be going to Uganda to live and work alongside a team of paid Ugandan professionals and other volunteers, within a local primary school to help build a playground. Play has many benefits such as developing social, physical, cognitive and emotional skills. A playground is a classroom in disguise as the children are unaware of their learning but really they are taking in the whole world whilst playing with their friends and having the freedom to enjoy. This method has proven to be very successful therefore I feel that all children - especially those in the most disadvantaged areas of the world - deserve the opportunity to develop to their full potential. My goal is to raise £800 which will provide the appropriate equipment to build the playgrounds and train staff members to help provide the gift of play to the children of Uganda.

I will NOT be fundraising for my own travel costs such as flights, accommodation and vehicle transfers as I have been able to cover those myself.

How will your donation help:

£5.11 - gives one child access to a safe, fun and child-focused playground
£21.83 - educates a teacher on the importance of education through play and creates a peer network to share their knowledge and experiences
£73.80 - equips a former street child with everything they need to learn the basics of welding, from their own set of work boots through to ear defenders and glasses
£131 - teaches a community of caregivers and educators about the importance of play at home and schools, as well as how to maintain their playground
£197.61 - trains a former street child for a month, helping them to become a qualified builder or welder through our apprenticeship scheme

I want to give this opportunity to the children of Uganda and would be grateful if you could please help by donating towards my fundraising. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance for your kind contribution.
