Francesca Wells I've signed up to the Gorilla Trek with the charity, 'East African Playgrounds' to raise £2,200 to help underprivileged children gain a joyous childhood through play. I will be going to Uganda in July 2020, living and working within a local community to build a playground for school in a rural area, as well as trekking to find the last remaining Silverback Mountain Gorillas.

Play has been proved to be invaluable to a child's health, well-being and mental development and I believe that every child should have this opportunity. However, not everyone in this world is as privileged as I have been. Everyday children across East Africa are restricted by their right to be a child due to lack of resources and money. Playing improves communication skills and builds social and emotional understanding whilst also giving them a space in which to make sense of the world and exercise the freedom of thought.

The charity 'East African Playgrounds' has built over 300 playgrounds across Uganda in schools, community centres and refugee settlements helping to empower some of the world's most disadvantaged children.

What a difference your donation makes:
£5.11 can give one child their childhood back through access to a safe, fun and child-focused playground.
£21.83 can educate a teacher on the importance of including play in education and creates a peer network for them to share their learning in.
£73.80 can equip a street connected young person with everything they need to learn the basics of welding, from their own set of work boots through to ear defenders and glasses.
£131 can teach a community of caregivers and educators about the importance of play at home and school, as well as how to maintain their playground.
£197.61 can train a street connected young person for a month to become a qualified builder or welder through our apprenticeship scheme.

I want to give the gift of play to the children of Uganda. Please help me reach my fundraising target by giving whatever you can- any donation will make a difference.

I am also aiming to fundraise for my flights, so any money that I raise above £2,200 can be reimbursed by East African Playgrounds to me (upon request), up to the cost of my flight.
