Ellen Johns I am very excited to be involved in the Gorilla Trek 2018. In August 2018 I will be travelling to Uganda for three weeks.
I will spend the first part of my trip trekking through the forests, canoeing across the rivers and climbing the mountains of Uganda. By doing so I will be helping to conserve the Silverback Gorilla, a critically endangered species. On the final day of the trek I will be lucky enough to spend time in the company of the last remaining Silverback Gorilla population. Part of the money raised towards this wonderful adventure will be used to purchase a Gorilla Permit from the Ugandan Wildlife Authority, a charity that work on the conservation of Ugandan National Parks and look after the gorillas I’ll trek to see.
I will spend the second part of my journey living and volunteering living in a local community. Here we will transform an empty playing field into a playground for a local school for the children and many generations to come to enjoy. EAP employ over 40 disadvantaged young adults to help build a fun, safe and exciting playground for the children. Whilst at the school we will engage in a Creative Play Programme where we will help the children learn and develop through play. We will get to the know children as we will spend many days volunteering in their school. The finale day is when the kids get to see and use their playground for the first time. I am excited to see the faces of the children as they see the playground we will have worked hard to build.
The aim of this project is not only to build a playground but to make a lasting impact for these disadvantaged children. I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to help build bright futures for so many children of Uganda. I have been extremely lucky to have had a happy childhood full of opportunities to play and learn and I feel very lucky to be able to use this to help others who have not been so fortunate. However, none of this will be possible without kind and generous donations. I would be extremely grateful for any donations. No matter how small, any donations will help to build a bright future for the children and also help to conserve the critically endangered Silverback gorilla. Please note that each donation will go directly to the charities. For more information on East African Playgrounds please visit https://www.eastafricanplaygrounds.org
I would be equally as grateful if you could share/ like/ pass on this link to as many people as possible to help spread awareness of the project and of this wonderful charity.
Thanks in advance for your support and kind donations, let’s give these children the childhoods they deserve.
Ellen 💛
