Ellen Michael I've signed up to the Gorilla Trek with the charity, East African Playgrounds to raise £2,000 to help bring the gift of play to the children of Uganda.

After the success of raising money for Breast Cancer Now last year I've decided to take on a new and even more exciting challenge. Next summer I will be going to Uganda for three weeks in order to build a playground for a school in rural Uganda and run creative play sessions.

All playgrounds are sustainably build using recycled materials and not only does this bring enjoyment to Ugandan children, it promotes development within young children. Multiple studies have shown play is essential to a child's learning and cognitive and behavioural skills. East African Playgrounds is a charity that has already affected over 250 communities and changed the lives of 375,000 children in Uganda. By the end of 2019 this will increase to half a million children so this really is the year to get involved!

£5.11 gives one child their childhood back through access to a safe, fun and child-focussed playground.
£21.83 educates a teacher on the importance of including play in education and creates a peer network for them to share their learning in.
£73.80 equips a former street child with everything they need to learn the basics of welding, from their own set of work boots through to ear defenders and glasses.
£131 teaches a community of care-givers and educators about the importance of play at home and school, as well as how to maintain their playground.
I will also be fundraising for my flights, so any money I raise above £2000 can be reimbursed to me upon request, up to the cost of my flight.

Any donation, no matter who small, is more than worthwhile to this amazing charity. Ellen Michael
