Joe Houghton I have signed up to the Uganda Volunteer Project with the charity East African Playgrounds; the goal is to raise £800 to help bring the gift of play to the children of Uganda.
The opportunity to travel to another country and make a difference for those less fortunate than myself has always been a goal of mine which I have held with passion, and now with this project, I have the chance to do exactly that. For four weeks in July, I will be living/working in a Ugandan primary school and helping to build a playground for the children there. A task which promises to be hard work but unfathomably rewarding, along with having a positive impact on the youth.
After doing research following my acceptance to the project, I have come to understand the importance of a playground and how much children learn from them; while children are having fun with their friends, unbeknownst to them they are also gaining valuable life skills such as social interaction, creativity, and treatment of others. Playing allows children to express themselves in ways which a classroom cannot provide, and can be the place of escape for them - unfortunately, the children at the school which I am visiting in Uganda are not fortunate enough to be able to have this privilege. Providing these children with a space to be free and discover new skills could be life changing and beneficial in countless ways
I would love to contribute to making a difference for this community, and you can be part of my journey too. Donating any amount of money would be highly appreciated, and/or sharing my page to your friends, family or social media would be a great help also. I would also like to make 100% clear that none of the donations go towards me or my personal gain; every penny will go to East African Playgrounds and help the cause! For more insight on where the donations go or general insight on the project, all details are on this website, www.eastafricanplaygrounds.org.
Thank you! Joe Houghton
