I have signed up to take on the Gorilla Trek with East African Playgrounds and am aiming to raise £2,000 to give children their childhood, through play. I believe every child should have the opportunity to develop their physical, social, emotional and cognitive skills, which can be done through something as simple as play. Having a playground gives children the space in which to make sense of the world and exercise freedom of thought. East African Playgrounds builds playgrounds all over Uganda, in schools, hospitals and even refugee camps - bringing opportunities to some of the most disadvantaged children.

Examples of what can be funded with a donation are:

£25 could provide a small herd of toy animals for the children to play on

£100 could fund one-month educational play programme

£250 could give the children the best climbing frame they (or you) have ever seen

This summer, I will be spending three weeks in Uganda - taking on mountains, lakes and jungles before volunteering on a playground build myself. Every penny I raise will be going to a non-profit focussed on developing East Africa.

A breakdown of what the £2000 I will raise is as follows:

£1,100 will go directly to East African Playgrounds to fund the incredible work they do.

£600 will go on project costs of food, accommodation and travel - most of which will go to the non-profit trek company, the Home of Edirisa, who support the communities which we trek through.

The final £300 will go to the Ugandan Wildlife authority to help the conservation efforts of the gorillas I will be visiting.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated!
