Charlotte Ferguson I've signed up to the Uganda Volunteer Project with the charity, East African Playgrounds to raise £800 to help bring the gift of play to the children of Uganda.

East African playgrounds as a charity do more than building playgrounds for the people of Uganda, they also work with other charities to train disadvantaged Ugandans in construction and welding, giving them qualifications and skills they will have for life. They also go into refugee camps (as Uganda has the largest refugee settlement in the world) and with the support of charities such as UNICEF they plan to implement the child play programme to reduce anxiety and to encourage the different races and cultures to integrate thus creating a community within the camp.

I will be going to Uganda for 4 weeks to live and work within a community and build a playground for children to give them the gift of play.

A playground is about much more than play, you develop so many skills, problem solving, communication, cognitive, emotional and teamwork skills aswell as giving them a safe space to make lifelong friendships and memories. The playgrounds have also been shown to decrease antisocial behaviour and increase attendance which is vital for their learning.

If you could please help by donating towards my fundraising, a breakdown of where the costs go can be found at https://www.eastafricanplaygrounds.org/volunteer-project-details Charlotte Ferguson
