Abbie Chetwynd I've signed up to the Gorilla Trek with the charity, East African Playgrounds to raise £2,000 to help build safe place spaces for the children on Uganda. In September I will be spending 3 weeks in Uganda and during that time I will help support a team to build a playground as well as running creative play sessions with children.

A playground is a classroom in disguise, children don't know or feel like they are learning, but really they are taking in the whole world whilst playing with their friends. Each playground will impact over 1500 children!

Why play? What impact does it have?

83% improvement in behaviour and concentration of children in class
100% of teachers stated a reduction in absenteeism
74% of children said they want to come to school because of the playground
98% of teachers stated an increase in enrolment
85% of children stating they have learnt new skills
96% of community members saw a positive change in the community

As well as the play programme, the charity also build playgrounds in refugee camps and they run a vocational programme to offer former street children with the skills and experience to gain employment.

A breakdown of where the costs go can be found at

Any donation, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated 💛

Money raised over my target will be going towards my flights, allowing me to travel to Uganda to volunteer. Abbie Chetwynd
