Handing over the reigns Big news … After 10 incredible years, Tom is handing over the reins and moving off onto a new adventure, saying a fond farewell to all our fabulous supporters, beneficiaries and staff. In those 10 years Tom has led EAP to become an award-winning charity, as well as developing the staff to become award winning themselves. Under Tom’s leadership 532,500 children (that’s 6 Wembley stadiums full of children!) have gained access to 355 safe, fun playgrounds – enabling them to laugh, have fun, make friends and learn. Tom has provided employment for over 100 Ugandan staff members giving them a brighter future through their employment opportunities. An incredible achievement in 10 years! It has been a privilege to have been supported by so many wonderful people over the past 10 years. Thousands of people have joined the EAP family over the past decade and it is the combined efforts of our supporters, volunteers, trustees, staff and interns in the UK and Uganda that have given me the chance to live out the dream Carla and I had as bright eyed students in our early twenties. I could never have expected that EAP would have done so much and impacted so many people. I'm extremely excited to see EAP grow and spreading our work across the African continent in the coming years. I would like to say a big thank you to you all for making everything EAP has achieved possible. EAP has a fantastic team and under the leadership of Murielle, Carla, David and Noorzaman the future is very exciting. But, who is going to fill those rather large and fun shoes of Tom’s …? Murielle Maupoint! Murielle has been a keen supporter of East African Playgrounds for the past 4 years, working together with Tom and I to resolve problems and create great ideas together. Murielle has a wealth of knowledge from within the charity and business sector that she is super keen to share, to help take EAP from the great foundations that have been laid onto the next exciting milestones that awaits. I am thrilled to join East African Playgrounds as their first non-founder CEO. I have loved the vision, passion, spirit and energy of the charity and its team from the first moment I met Tom & Carla. I have already had the privilege of seeing firsthand the phenomenal impact their playgrounds, apprenticeship scheme and play based learning programmes are having on some of the most disadvantaged children and young people in Uganda. It truly is an honour to join this fun and vibrant charity at such an exhilarating time in its history and to be entrusted to enable East African Playgrounds to become a global leader in play. I can hear, many of your saying, ‘but what about you Carla?’ Well I am super excited to be working with Murielle to develop East African Playgrounds and ensure that play is on the global agenda. We both share the same passion and vision for play and can’t wait to take East African Playgrounds to the next level. Watch this space!
