Interested in fundraising? Here are a few tried-and-tested fundraising ideas to get your imagination flowing:
Pancake Party
An EAP speciality, a cheap, quick and fun way to raise money and have fun at the same time. All you need is eggs, flour, milk, a frying pan, lemon and sugar and you’re away (but don’t forget to invite your friends!)
Coffee Mornings and Cake Stalls
These can go down really well - everyone gets to have a good old chinwag and get excited about your East African adventure.
Doughnut Sale
Krispy Kreme doughnuts do a great offer for fundraisers – works really well on university campuses.
Car Washing
Perfect for a lovely summers day … or in the British rain! Spread the word, grab some sponges and friends and get washing. Great day, shiny cars, and another easy fundraiser.
Summer Fete
From the Lucky Dip to Hook-a-Duck, and a football shoot-out to a coconut shy, people of all ages will enjoy a summer fete day! Just find yourself a communal area (make sure you have permission to use it), and spread the word. Get your friends and family involved in manning a stall and enjoying the day.
Hold an Event
There are endless amounts of events you can hold as fundraisers. Find out what your family and friends would enjoy then get booking. You can organise band nights, themed nights, barn dances, roller discos, quiz nights – the possibilities are endless.
A Quiet Night In
If you don’t fancy a crazy day or a wild night of fundraising then why not stay at home and hold a jewellery sale? We have links with charity ‘My Small Shop’, who stock fairly-traded jewellery, scarves, and other lovely bits and pieces, and 20% of your evening sales will go directly to EAP.
Egging
This is an event that our 2009 volunteers are about to undertake. How it works is … you go around your local town, village or student area, knock on doors and ask, ‘how much would you donate, if I allowed you to smash this egg on my head?!!’ It is amazing how much money you can make.
Bucket Shaking
This is a great easy way to make money at football matches, pubs, supermarkets or local concerts (remember to get permission first!). You can even do it fancy dress!
Dinner and Games Night
Invite all your friends around for a ‘murder mystery’ night, full of fun, food and fundraising. Ask each friend to donate around £10, then sit back and enjoy the evening with your friends.
Bag Packing
Simple. Write a letter to your local supermarket specifying what day you would like to bag pack and for what cause (preferably EAP!), wait for the confirmation, then wander down with a load of your friends and get packing bags for the busy shoppers whilst asking for donations.
Sponsored Events
Sponsored events are one of the most popular ways of fundraising. You can do anything: a sponsored silence, hike, skydive, swim, marathon, head shave, body wax, eat… the list goes on.
East African Playgrounds can help with large sponsored events such as skydiving, marathons or trekking etc. So please feel free to get in touch with us, informing us of your plans, and we will give you the support you need.
You can ask people to sponsor you depending on how far, much, or long your event lasts. For example, you could say to your donors, “If I make £100, I will not speak for 4 hours; if I make £200 I will not speak for 8 hours” etc. The less likely people think you are to do it the more they are likely to pay!
The best way to get a large amount of sponsors, and increase your donations by 20% through Gift Aid, is to get yourself a fantastic ‘JustGiving’ page.
However if you prefer the good old paper version, then here’s one we made earlier! Download: sponsorship-form
